A Note from Amanda

Hi, I'm Amanda — the artist, maker, and dreamer behind Fox Jot Studio.

I’ve always enjoyed getting to know fellow artists, so I thought I’d share a bit about myself with you.

Though I started my visual arts journey in watercolor, ink is now at the heart of everything I create. Sometimes that means closely observed botanicals, built up through fine lines and stippling. Sometimes it means fantastical, immersive scenes where ancient trees twist and breathe, and quiet creatures tuck themselves into mossy corners. When I use it, watercolor is added as an accent to the lines. My style and interests are always evolving and can shift unexpectedly – hence the “Jot” in my studio’s name.

My subjects are almost always drawn from nature: flowers, fungi, forests, the small overlooked things. But what I'm really chasing in every piece is that feeling you get when you stop and look at something long enough that it starts to feel a little magical.

That's what I hope you take home with you.

I work from my home studio with a big window — and honestly, that view is half the inspiration. Whether it's a snowy field in January or the first green of spring, nature is always finding its way into my work. The master of the studio, Whiskey, often helps me by decluttering my desk, overseeing my work, drinking the rinse water, and demanding I take breaks.

My country home is in Western New York (Go Bills!), and includes my husband, 3 youngest children (of 5– 2 have already left home), two cats, and an ancient dog. We’re a tight-knit bunch that enjoys hiking, camping, and all things geeky.

Thank you for being here. Whether you're sending a card to someone you love or treating yourself to something handmade — I'm so glad my art found its way to you.

With gratitude,
Amanda
